HOUSTON, Texas — Two weeks before Christians from across Greater Houston are set to gather for AWAKE Houston, believers filled the streets of downtown Houston for a separately organized Jesus March centered on evangelism and the public proclamation of Jesus Christ.
The Houston Jesus March took place Saturday, September 5, beginning at Discovery Green in downtown Houston. United Revival, one of the ministries behind the gathering, promoted the event as an opportunity for believers to worship and pray together before marching through the city and stopping along the route to proclaim the Gospel.
Videos posted from the gathering showed large crowds worshiping and marching through downtown Houston.
Houston Jesus March Brings Worship and the Gospel to the Streets
According to United Revival, the gathering began with worship and prayer at Discovery Green before participants marched through downtown. The organization said the planned route included stops for prayer, worship and Gospel preaching before returning to the starting location for further ministry and baptisms.
This was Houston’s second Jesus March in as many years.
Organizers were explicit about the purpose of the event:
“This is not a protest. We are making a proclamation that Jesus and the church are alive!” — United Revival
The Houston gathering was part of a broader series of Jesus March events organized by United Revival in cities across the country. Willamette Week, reporting on the July Jesus March in Portland, identified United Revival as the organization behind the national series and reported that Houston would be its next stop.

God continues to move in Houston
The public display of Christian faith came exactly two weeks before AWAKE Houston, which will gather believers Saturday, September 19, at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land for worship, prayer and a call for spiritual revival.
AWAKE Houston will feature international evangelist, bestselling author and pastor Dr. Michael Youssef and GRAMMY-winning worship artist Chris Tomlin. The official venue schedule lists the event for 7:00 PM CT, and Chris Tomlin’s official tour schedule also lists AWAKE Houston at Smart Financial Centre that evening.
The Jesus March and AWAKE Houston are organized separately. Their proximity, however, places two public Christian gatherings in the Greater Houston area within a two-week period, both emphasizing prayer, Gospel witness and the spiritual health of the Church.
Does a Large Christian Gathering Mean Revival?
From a Biblical perspective, Christians should be careful not to declare every large Christian gathering a “revival.” Revival is God’s work, not something produced by attendance, music, emotion or an event schedule.
But Scripture does call believers to confess Christ publicly and proclaim the Gospel boldly. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14).
For Christians watching gatherings like these unfold, the greater question is not simply how many people fill the streets or an auditorium. It is whether God’s people continue in repentance, prayer, obedience to Scripture and faithful Gospel witness after the crowds go home.
Public gatherings can create a moment. Revival reaches deeper.
The prayer is that believers would return to their churches, homes, workplaces and neighborhoods with a renewed devotion to Christ—and that those who do not know Him would hear and respond to the Gospel.
Houston’s Next Gathering: AWAKE Houston
That is also the heart behind AWAKE Houston.
AWAKE America describes the September 19 gathering as a call for Christians to seek spiritual renewal, pray boldly and unite around Jesus Christ and the Truth of God’s Word.
Houston has already seen believers gathering publicly to proclaim the name of Jesus. Another opportunity is now approaching to pray that what happens inside a gathering leads to something deeper outside of it: revived Christians, strengthened churches, people far from Christ hearing the Gospel, and believers faithfully carrying the hope of Jesus into their communities long after the event ends.
