When you pray for America’s military, picture the people behind the uniforms: a young adult preparing for a first deployment, a parent missing a child’s birthday, a veteran entering a new season, a family waiting for a loved one to come home.
These are people we can love, serve, and bring before the Lord.
As we pray for their protection and well-being, let us also ask God to draw them to Jesus Christ. Pray for believers to grow in faith, for the lost to hear the Gospel, and for spiritual revival to reach military communities at home and abroad.
1. Pray for Protection and Confidence in God
Psalm 46:1 declares, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (NIV).
Ask the Lord to protect service members during training, deployment, and daily duties. Pray for alertness, sound judgment, and strength when they are exhausted. Ask Him to steady anxious hearts and teach them to depend on Him.
Psalm 91 calls us to find refuge in God. We can pray boldly for safety while trusting His wisdom in every circumstance. His promise, “I will be with him in trouble” (Psalm 91:15, NIV), gives believers assurance of His presence through suffering. God’s faithfulness remains certain when circumstances are painful.
2. Pray for Healing and Hope for Veterans
Remember veterans who are living with injuries, grieving friends, facing loneliness, or adjusting to civilian life. Ask God to provide compassionate care, trustworthy relationships, and meaningful opportunities to use their gifts.
Pray for those struggling to speak about painful experiences. Ask the Lord to surround them with people who will listen patiently and help them receive appropriate support.
As you pray for healing, ask God to reveal the hope of Christ. Pray that veterans who know Him will be strengthened through Scripture and Christian fellowship, and that those searching for hope will encounter believers ready to share the Gospel with compassion.
3. Pray for Strong Marriages and Families
Bring military spouses, children, parents, and caregivers before the Lord. Pray for households navigating deployments, relocations, demanding schedules, or the adjustments of reunion.
Ask God to strengthen marriages through faithfulness, patience, honest communication, and forgiveness. Pray for children who miss a parent or are building friendships in an unfamiliar place. Remember grieving families whose loved ones will never return home.
Pray that military households will become places where God’s Word is read, prayer is practiced, and children learn to trust Jesus. Ask Himto connect each family with a faithful local church that will welcome them and walk beside them.
4. Pray for Wisdom and Integrity in Leadership
Scripture calls believers to pray for those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1–2). Pray for military leaders making decisions that affect servicemembers, families, and communities. Ask God to give them discernment, humility, courage, and a commitment to what is right.
Pray that they will value human life, resist corruption, protect those entrusted to their care, and act with justice. Ask the Lord to restrain evil and guide leaders toward peace.
For Christians in positions of authority, pray for a consistent witness. Ask God to make their conduct reflect Biblical Truth, especially when obedience is costly. Pray that their example will create opportunities for honest conversations about faith in Christ.
5. Pray for Chaplains and Bold Gospel Witness
Pray for Christian chaplains, pastors, and believers serving military communities. Ask God to sustain them as they counsel the hurting, comfort the grieving, and proclaim His Word.
Pray for courage to speak clearly about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died for our sins and rose again. Ask the Holy Spirit to convict hearts, lead people to repentance, and draw them to saving faith in Christ alone.
Pray for lasting discipleship: new believers grounded in Scripture, growing in obedience, and connected to a local church. Ask God to use their testimony to reach fellow service members and families with the Gospel.
6. Pray for Revival Beginning in the Church
As we ask God to move in military communities, we must examine our own hearts. Have we neglected prayer? Have we overlooked a military family in our congregation or a veteran in our neighborhood?
John 15:13 teaches us about love willing to give one’s life for others. Jesus spoke these words to His disciples as He prepared to go to the cross. His love calls us to costly, practical care for one another.
Ask God to forgive our indifference and renew our love for Christ. Then act: invite a veteran to share a meal, offer a family practical help, or commit to praying regularly with someone who feels alone. A revived Church carries the Gospel with compassion and conviction.
Begin With One Person
Choose one service member, veteran, or military family to pray for this week. Ask what they need. Follow up. Invite your church or small group to join you.

A Prayer for Our Military and Veterans
Heavenly Father, protect those serving in our military, strengthen veterans, and sustain their families. Be their refuge in danger, their comfort in grief, and their strength in uncertainty. Provide wise leaders, compassionate care, and faithful churches to walk beside them. Draw those who do not know You to salvation through Jesus Christ, and renew the faith of those who do. Forgive our prayerlessness and awaken Your Church to love, serve, and proclaim Your Truth. Let revival begin in our hearts and spread through military communities for Your glory. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
