Boston, MA (Oct. 28, 2025) – In a bold move toward what organizers are calling a “next Great Spiritual Awakening,” the AWAKE America movement in partnership with Boston-area churches held its first city-wide rally in Boston on October 24-25 at the historic Tremont Temple Baptist Church (88 Tremont St., Boston, MA). The gathering united students, seekers and believers from across denominational lines for worship, preaching and prayer.

Revival in a Secular City

Boston has long been considered one of America’s most secular major metros. According to a recent analysis, fewer than one in four adults in the Greater Boston area say religion plays a “very important” role in their lives, down from 36% a decade ago. That context frames the urgency behind AWAKE America’s strategy.

“We’re praying God will do it again,” said Dr. Michael Youssef, founder of AWAKE America. “Nearly 300 years ago, the First Great Awakening swept through Boston. It began in the church and turned into a nationwide awakening. We’re praying God will do it again.”

Timothy Kezar, City Director of AWAKE America Rallies, shared: “The percentage of evangelical Christians in New England is consistently in the low single digits, and it is hard work advancing the Kingdom there—especially Boston, the veritable capital of New England. And yet, our Rally was another impactful advance into the spiritual darkness of New England. God’s people came, lifted high praise, and we saw dozens and dozens lay their burdens down, and commit their lives to the service of the King of kings. To God be the Glory!”

How God moved:

  • Friday, Oct. 24: University Night Masterclass for college students featuring Sean McDowell tackling “If God, Why Evil?” with open Q&A.
  • Saturday, Oct. 25 (doors at 3:30 pm; event 4:00-6:00 pm): Worship led by Grammy-award winner Mac Powell and singer-songwriter Mallory Miller, followed by a message from Youssef.
  • Venue and posture: Tremont Temple, a historic Boston landmark and first integrated church in America, hosted the gathering.
  • Movement scale: AWAKE America reports mobilizing nearly 500,000 prayer-warriors across the United States since its launch in 2020.
  • Local church collaboration: Local Boston churches such as King’s Hill Church, Congregación León de Judá and others partnered in the rally.
“The burden of my heart is to call the church back to God’s Word—to proclaim the unchanging Truth of Scripture, to rally believers to stand firm in Christ, and to encourage them to advance the Gospel like never before.” – Dr. Michael Youssef

Worship, Unity & Apologetics

The two-day format was designed to engage diverse audiences: from collegiate skeptics and seekers at the Friday evening session, to mainstream churchgoers and innovators on Saturday. With worship led by seasoned artists and a strong preaching component, the rally sought both spiritual renewal and cultural engagement.

By uniting denominational partners, AWAKE Boston aimed to demonstrate Christian unity in a region where faith is often marginalized. Christian Perspective: From a Biblical worldview, this echoes the call in Scripture for the church to “contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3, ESV) and to “stand firm in the faith” (1 Corinthians 16:13). The event invited believers to heed that call and be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16) in one of America’s most influential cities.

Why Boston Matters for Revival in America

  • Strategic city: Boston’s rich spiritual heritage—from the First Great Awakening in the 1740s to influential Christian institutions—makes it a symbolic site for revival.
  • Cultural challenge: With declining religious engagement (fewer than 25 % say religion is very important) the city represents both the challenge and opportunity of modern evangelism.
  • Movement model: AWAKE America plans additional city-wide rallies (e.g., in Washington D.C. and San Antonio) following Boston’s example.

Believers Were Moved in a Mighty Way

Spontaneous worship broke out in the hallways. Prayer ministry continued long after the message ended. Tears streamed down faces as hearts surrendered, repented, and gave thanks.

As Dr. Youssef urged believers to “wake up from their spiritual sleep,” many responded immediately. Over the next 48 hours, dozens of testimonies poured in:

“There was such a true move of God at the event. It shook me up and awakened what I had many years ago: my first love.” — Rosemary, NH

What's Next?

Organizers indicate that AWAKE Boston is just the beginning of a broader movement of revival in key American cities. Participants and partner churches are being urged to maintain momentum through local small-group prayer, evangelism and corporate worship. The key emphasis: spiritual renewal within the church, then outward impact on the city.
