OREM, Utah (September 18,2025) — The fatal shooting of conservative Christian activist Charlie Kirk on September 10 at Utah Valley University has stirred something far deeper than political outrage. Across the nation, Christians are declaring the Gospel boldly, churches are filling beyond capacity, and even those distant from faith are voicing fresh spiritual curiosity.
What began as public prayer vigils held nationwide, from Utah to Washington, D.C., has grown into a resounding wake-up call for revival, shining light on the deeper spiritual issues in our nation.
A Public Outpouring
Over the weekend, across X and other social media platforms, Christian leaders and laypeople alike highlighted the increased spiritual hunger they’ve witnessed in the wake of the tragedy:
- @gavin_adams: “I noticed our church was a[s] crowded as it’s been in a long time today. God turns what the enemy intends for harm into good. Every time.”
- @CaliGal4Ever: “My church has 4 services, each seating about 700 people. They had to bring in extra chairs for the overflow in 3 of the 4 services. God is on the move!”
Individuals also shared adeeper desire to return to church:
- @Kimber8114: “I felt the need to go to church this morning after being absent for 2 years.”
- @Steven_Styles7: “I went to church today at 9 o’clock mass. First time I’ve been in a church in 30 years.”
Christian Leaders Respond
In the wake of the tragedy, Christian leaders are calling believers to pray, stand boldly for Christ, and not be shaken by fear. AWAKE America’s founder Dr. Michael A. Youssef, who will be sharing a revival message at our upcoming AWAKE America rallies in Boston and Washington, D.C., shared with his Atlanta congregation:
“Don’t believe those who tell you it was a political assassination. He was killed because of his faith in Jesus. I’m going to be praying . . . that his death would be redemptive.”
Apologist Sean McDowell, who will be speaking at AWAKE Boston’s University Night, shared on his YouTube channel:
“Whether you agree with himpolitically or not, Charlie Kirk was clearly the most dynamic college campusspeaker in America. . . . He had an evangelistic heart. . . . My prayer is that God would use this for good in our country, use this for good in his family, use this for good in the church in ways only God knows.”
Boldness Rises
Following Kirk’s death, Christian singer-songwriter Forrest Frank, speaking to his 5.7 million Instagram followers in a video, repented of “ways I’ve allowed my platform to be a lukewarm highlight reel” and shared the Gospel boldly with his audience.
Even non-Christians are grappling with the deeper spiritual questions exposed by this and other acts of violence across the nation.
One TikToker noted, “Something profound is happening right now. . . . I have never in my life been able to see so black and white, good and evil, right in front of my face. . . . I’ve never juggled with religion, but recently, before all of this, probably in the last year or two, I’ve felt at least a curiosity.”
Another woman posted to Instagram, “For the very first time, yesterday I grabbed the Bible. I don’t know what I’m looking for . . . but Charlie Kirk’s death woke me up spiritually, and now I can’t unsee the truth.”
A Call to Pray
Across the AWAKE America community, believers are submitting prayers through our website, asking God to use this moment as a catalyst for true revival. One prayer warrior named Kathy shared, “Father, please forgive us our complacency. Let this have lasting effects on the world.” And Tiffany prayed, “Help us move forward . . .without being afraid of the repercussions [of sharing our faith].”
Let’s pray together that this moment will not fade into emotional hype or watered-down faith, but will spark a genuine, Biblical revival marked by repentance, wholehearted devotion, and bold witnessing for Christ. Let’s pray together:
“Heavenly Father, we lift our eyes to You. Our hearts are crushed by the darkness around us. Like Peter, we cry, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life’ (John 6:68). Only You can bring healing, hope, and redemption. Only You can restore this broken world. Only You can root out the sin in our hearts. Revive Your Church. Awaken this nation. Stir boldness in those who follow You and open the eyes of those who don’t. Use this tragedy to turn hearts to You and raise up fearless witnesses for Christ—starting with me. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
